Creation: from the ideas to the job?
How I became textile designer.
I imperceptibly split from the cinema towards the “matter” after two sabbatical years which follow the birth of my first child in 1977, during which I sew, knit and arrange without moderation.
When there are ideas why not to try to sell them?
In 1979 with a small coordinated knitting seams unit that I had created for my son and some other achievements of my vintage, I break through the staff of the newspaper “Ma maison, mon ouvrage” (My home, my work) (disappeared today). The unit which will be released a few months later mark the beginning of my collaboration with women newspapers. In 1981 I take the statute of free lance to create explained cards of knitting, then easy seam, decoration and small do-it-yourself.
Gradually I work with other newspapers, incidentally or systematically: Avantages, Modes et Travaux, Famille,
etc…
The creation of knitting cards occupies me full-time, I also work for several catalogues of wool marks , Bergère de France, 3 Swiss and Phildar. Some: Chat Botté, Chanteleine, Berger du Nord will disappear after the first oil crisis from 1986 leaving a gap.
After an assessment of orientation (carried out in a specialized company) which confirms my capacities of creation and transmission of the knowledge, I continue freelance creation by diversifying the techniques employed, the easy seam and the decoration for Avantages and Modes et Travaux, newspapers with which I work regularly. I continue knitting mainly for the Phildar catalogues.
In 1998 editions SAEP entrusts the design and the writing of a book to me to learn knitting. To have freehand and succeed a project of A to Z on the basis of my convictions and of my competences brings a great satisfaction and a puff of oxygen to me.
Phildar is certainly the n°1 of knitting and it is surely not without reason, there is however a connection which does not function between my knowledge to make and their system of selection. Being not satisfied with the conditions, neither on the creative level nor on the financial plan, I decide to put an end to my collaboration with the catalogue, while continuing to work with their wools for the press.
“Learning knitting” is a very large success in France and abroad (in particular in the Hispanic countries). After several editions in 2004 it will be the subject of another one in a new format.
This book as well as the following ones, the diversity of the approached techniques and my work in workshop with children enables me to improve the component “knowledge sharing” of my creativity.
